Mohydine Itani

Mohydine Itani is a young Moroccan musician in Marrakech.

Mohydine has set up his own recording studio at home and is about launch his first CD of Classical Moroccan music preformed, recorded and produced entirely by himself.  Determind to live his dream he is working in a supermarket to finanace everything.

We think that Morocco with a talented, creative and determind young generation, like Mohydine, is assured of a bright future.  This is what the Arab Spring is all about and the older generation like Alan, who are in a position to do a little something to help, have a responsibliity to do what they can to help make their dreams come true.

The Capaldi Hotel

We've also been back to the new Capaldi Hotel to photograph their suites, some of which have their own private pools.

This is going to be a really nice hotel!

Located just beyound the Lalla Takerkoust, on the edge of the Agafy Desert, it has great views and big enough grounds that there are plenty of places to explore.  They've also hired a terrific French chef so it will quickly become a favourite excursion from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Sofitel Casablanca

Still Images have had a long relationship with the Sofitel chain in Morocco.  Many of the Sofitel Spas are decorated with Alan's now famous sepia photos of Morocco and we have been doing publicity shoots for the Sofitel Essaouira for some time now.

Our latest job was to create the first photos images of the new City Centre Sofitel in Casablanca.  It is still under construction and is due for delivery in the summer of 2012.  Being built near the port it is Casablanca's second tallest building (after the Twin Centre) and is going to be a modernist spire with fanatastic views over the port and the city all the way to the Grand Mosque Hassan II.

Our external view of the Accor Group City Centre complex comprising of the new Sofitel, Novotel and Ibis needed a bit of drawing in Photoshop and we used NikSoftware's Color Efex Pro to give the image a bit more drama.

RVZ Rental coming to Marrakech

Alan took part in the "Rancontres Professionelles" (professional meet up) at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Visuels de Marrakech (ESAV) this week, where he meet up with mostly film professionals across the region and Francophone Europe.  At the meet up were also students and staff from the ISAMM, the Tunisian Art Institute, and ALBA, the Academie Libanaise Des Beaux Arts.

However perhaps the biggest delight for us was to meet Evelyne Madaoui, owner of RVZ Rental, a very big film and photography rental house in Paris.  They were at the conference because they will be setting up a equipment rental branch located in the school itself from January 2012.  The rental will be open to students and professionals based in Morocco and photographers coming here to do location shoots.  As this is a first of its kind it really will become an important address for all those production companies that want to organise photo shoots here in Morocco.

RVZ rents out mostly Profoto and Elinchrom lighting and all types of photography equipment (Hasselblad, Canon and Nikon), and although they will only be starting with a limited range here in Morocco, it is a huge step for professional photography in the country.  If you have any particular needs they are happy to ship down specific equipment if they are given enough warning.

You can contact RVZ here.

Still Images has its own plans to launch a series of workshops - hopefully starting at the ESAV - combined with a small equipment hire (here we think we will be concentrating on mostly US made lighting such as Photoflex and Paul C Buff) and a sales department (RVZ are not in the sales business).

We think together we will really help make some changes in Morocco for both local photographers and visiting shoots.
